Nevada County Public Health’s health access vending (HAVEN) machines provide free and confidential county health products and services that:

  • Save lives
  • Prevent chronic disease
  • Promote mental and physical health
  • Reduce harm

All products are free and you can register for a unique pin number to access products easily online or in-person.

Products available through the vending machines include:

  • Naloxone (Narcan) and fentanyl test strips
  • Medication and sharps disposal kits
  • Adult and children’s oral health kits
  • First aid, hygiene and grooming kits (but not menstrual/period products)
  • Safer sex kits
  • And more

MED-Project provides different types of medication Mail-Back Packages at no charge to residents.

See web page for lists of accepted medicine, sharps, and inhalers.

People complete a web form to request a pre-paid, pre-addressed mail-back package. Instructions for disposal will be provided with all mail-back services. Please submit separate forms for each type of mail-back package.

To protect your privacy, patients are reminded to remove all personally identifiable information on medication labels or packaging before disposing of unwanted medicine.

Home healthcare professionals providing services to residents may also request a Mail-Back Package on their behalf.

Nevada County Public Health Department can help you keep drugs out of reach of kids and protect our water supply by properly disposing of your prescription medications.

In addition to permanent drop-off sites, there are periodic "Prescription Drug Take-Back Days," which are free events hosted by local law enforcement and the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) to give our community safe and convenient ways to drop off expired or unused prescription drugs.

Take back days depend on funding being available.

NCPHD has info about drop off locations and locations where people can pick up mail in envelopes for pills, inhalers, and sharps.

    United Way of Nevada County allocates donated funds from annual fundraising campaign to qualified Nevada County non-profit human service organizations; forwards donor designated funds to non-profit health and human service organizations; collaborates with local government, education, local businesses and humans service organizations.

    Programs include:
