A Touch of Understanding’s mission is to encourage acceptance and respect for all individuals. ATOU's educational programs are designed to increase understanding of differences, thereby minimizing discrimination, bullying, and social isolation suffered by children and adults who are perceived as different for any reason, but especially those with disabilities.

ATOU's in-school workshop provides a potent, life-changing opportunity for students to meet people with disabilities and to experience for themselves what it may be like to have a disability. The workshop is broken up into two parts.

  • Part 1: Speakers with disabilities talk about their life, their challenges, and how they achieve their goals. During the hour and a half session, students are encouraged to interact with these volunteers and ask questions.

Access in Motion is dedicated to providing on-time, accessible non-emergency medical transportation for the disabled community in Rocklin, Roseville, and surrounding areas in Placer and Sacramento counties. The company specializes in providing mobility services to and from dialysis and other medical appointments for individuals using wheelchairs and walkers or who are simply not able to drive themselves safely. Access in Motion provides door-to-door wheelchair service to ensure that passengers are personally escorted to their destination and safely returned home again.

The Achieve Tahoe Program Center is located at Alpine Meadows Resort in the North Lake Tahoe area of Northern California.

ADAPTIVE SKI AND SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTION FOR ALL ABILITIES
Achieve Tahoe is open daily for lessons from December 1st through April 28th (conditions permitting). They are a member school of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). Their PSIA-certified instructors and trained volunteers make skiing or snowboarding possible for anyone with physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities.

ADAPTIVE SUMMER SPORTS: A variety of summer sports are available in the Tahoe and Sacramento areas, such as water skiing, paddle sports, and sailing.

MILITARY ADAPTIVE SPORTS CAMPS: Achieve Tahoe conducts a winter and summer sports camp for military service members disabled during active duty.
